Symantec Backup Exec Remote Agent for Linux or UNIX Servers

What you need to install the agent::

{Group: beoper GUID - 601 (you pick the id or let it pick)

user: VRTSralus (name it whatever you want)

hostname - of the backup Exec media server }


Get the version:

strings beremote | grep Version

Stop/Start Agent

To Stop: /etc/init.d/VRTSralus.init stop
To Start: /etc/init.d/VRTSralus.init start

Configuration File

/etc/VRTSralus/ralus.cfg

Is it running: ps -ef|grep beremote

If not started type:

/opt/VRTSralus/bin/VRTSralus.init

Config file details:
SOFTWARE\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Agent Browser\TcpIp\AdvertisementPort=6101
Advertising port
Software\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\Agents\Advertising Interval Minutes=60
To change time interval
Software\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\Agents\Agent Directory List 1=10.0.0.2
To add media server(s)
Software\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\Logging\RANT NDMP Debug Level=0
To debug set the value to 1
Software\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\RALUS\Encoder=
Software\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\RALUS\SystemExclude1=/dev/*.*
Software\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\RALUS\SystemExclude2=/proc/*.*
Software\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\RALUS\SystemExclude3=/mnt/nss/pools/
Software\VERITAS\Backup Exec\Engine\RALUS\SystemExclude4=/mnt/nss/.pools/

About creating the beoper group

1. Create the beoper group (lower case)
2. Create the beoper user symantec remote agent
3. Install the client - cd to /media

4. ./installralus

5. linux host - earth venus

6. Installer checks - press enter

7. Review the package summary - press enter

8. pre-checks - press enter

9. After install requirements check - press enter

10. Type hostname - of the backup Exec media server

11. Verify hostname - press enter

12. Read group requirements - press enter

13. Start NIS server scan. Press Enter

14. Examine the results of the NIS server scan
If NIS , beoper group must be created manuall
IF no NIS, press enter to scan for beoper group and root membership.

15. If no beoper-

16. Type Y and press enter to specify the GID

17. Press enter to add Root to group beoper

18. Press Enter to begin INstallation

19. Press Enter after installation complete

20. Installralus log file - /var/tmp/vxif/installralus<summary File
number >/installlralus.log

. To start, stop or restart the agent use the following command,

[root@egdodb init.d]# cd /etc/init.d

[root@egdodb init.d]# ls VR*

VRTSralus.init
[root@egdodb init.d]# ./VRTSralus.init status

Usage: VRTSralus.init { start stop restart }

[root@egdodb init.d]# ./VRTSralus.init start

1. Hostname and IP of backup exec media server

tar zxvf filename.tar.gz

 

Debug for Oracle Agent
For Linux:
1. Stop the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Linux Servers (/opt/VRTSralus/bin/VRTSralus.init stop)
2. Edit the /etc/VRTSralus/ralus.cfg and add this to it:
  Software\Symantec\Backup Exec For Windows\Backup Exec\Debug\VXBSALEVEL=5
